The students of Moirangpurel High School, have threatened to submit their textbook to the Education Director and to halt their studies, if the State Government fails to provide the necessary teachers of the school within 15 days.
Speaking to media persons at the school premises today, at Moirangpurel, Imphal East, the students informed that the school currently has 242 primary level students and 352 students from class VI to X .
However, there is only one primary level teacher as opposed to the required 10/11 teachers, the students claimed and added that recently seven teachers were transferred from the school.
The high school is handled by only seven teachers against the required 13/14 teachers.
The students mentioned that the school requires more teachers as it has a large number of students and further explained that the school also lacks class rooms and other infrastructure as well.
On the other hand, the Headmaster of the school, Ksh Johnson said that Andro MLA and Forest and Environment Minister, Th Shyamkumar provides help including hiring of teachers privately and transportation of the teachers, but the school still needs the Government's attention.
He mentioned that there are at least 70 students in a classroom, opposed to the normal capacity of 40 per class, as many students are from far off places.
The Headmaster also said that a class needs to be divided into two sections and the school is facing numerous inconveniences due to lack of teachers.
