Commandos gun down one UG suspect

Imphal, September 25 2012: An UG suspect was gunned down by personnel of Imphal West District Police Commandos at Changangei Uchekon under Lamphel Police Station and recovered one 9 mm Pistol loaded with live rounds from the slain cadre.

The incident occurred at around 5:40 pm today.

According to police report, following specific information that some armed UG cadres are loitering around Changangei Uchekon area, a team of Imphal West District Police Commandos rushed in to the area and conducted frisking.

While the commandos were conducting frisking and checking of passersby, three suspected persons who were coming towards the police commandos were seen suddenly turning back to leave the area.

When the commandos asked them to stop for verification, the three suspected persons opened fire at them.

The commandos also retaliated and one of the suspected UG cadres was killed while the other two managed to escape taking advantage of the dark.

When the police searched the area, an unexploded hand grenade, one 9 mm pistol along with a live round and three empty cases were found from the spot.

The hand grenade was later detonated by a team of bomb experts.
