PAWF members visit Tripura museum, promise to donate historical artefacts

Agartala, August 25 2024: A 12-member team of the Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur has visited the Tripura State Museum in Agartala and expressed their desire to donate Manipuri historical artefacts.

The team including the forum's secretary, Rakesh Naorem took a tour of the Manipuri Comer in the museum and met with the curator of the museum, Sampa Mivya.

Rakesh Naorem gifted a Leirum Phee to the curator and expressed the team's desire to donate more Meetei/Manipuri artefacts to the museum.

Patriotic Writers Forum, Tripura Branch advisor and secretary of Lamyanba Sangstha Kshetrimayum Madhabi, PAWF president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang, founder secretary OC Meira, PAWF Tripura Branch president Gurumayum Biplab Sharma, social activist Dr Yengkhom Bhagyachandra, Dr Kiran Yendrembam, Dr S Ibungochouba, Jamuna Lairenjam, Chaoba Heikham were part of the team.

After the meeting with the curator of the museum, PAWF Manipur secretary Rakesh Naorem said that the Lamyanba Sangstha Tripura will celebrate its silver jubilee in January 2026, and in connection with the celebration,, the organisation in association with the PAWF will donate articles of historical importance like Pena, Leiteng Thang, statues/portraits of Khamba Thoibi, Meitei Kokyet etc to the museum.

The Tripura State Museum, which was then a palace of Tripura Kings, was the State Assembly for a period of time.

It was converted into a State Museum in 2013.The museum has paintings of 6 Meetei/Meitei Maharanis who were wives of Takhel Kings.

The paintings done by Yumlembam Dhananjoy Singh include that of Maha-rani Rajeshwari, Maharani Bhanumati, Maharani Mananamohini, Maharani Tulsibati, Maharani Ratanamanjuri and Maharani Manomanjuri.

The museum also has various kinds of Manipuri historical artefacts including Meetei/Meitei Phanek and Lashing Phee, and images of Meitei/Meetei Pung, Lai Haraoba, Ras Leela, Kangla Gate, Iputhou Pakhangba Temple etc.

The Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur appealed to people to assist in donating materials to the museum.

The PAWF team is visiting Meeteis/Meiteis in Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya.
