Imphal, June 24 2016 :
The southern border villages of Ukhrul have expressed strong
resentment against the Duty Commander of the 17 Assam Ri-
fles at Bundung, Kashung village for unnecessarily detaining
an injured person at the AR gate.
Malungmi Ringyami (22), s/o Isaac Hungyo of K
Ashang Khullen Aze, hurt himself when he accidentally
misfired from his licensed gun during a hunting expedition
on the eve of Father's Day.
The villagers after administering first aid were taking the
injured to the State capital for further treatment when duty
commander Captain Akshat Choudhary of 17 AR detained
them at Bundung Kashung 1st and 2nd gate for at least 2
hours with the injured in a critical condition.
According to the deceased's family, Ringyami would
have lived if they had reached the hospital in time that night.
They alleged that it was due to the unnecessary detention
at the AR gate that led to the death of Ringyami.
The AR closes the gates to the village after 5 pm eve-
ryday but no specific time is set for opening the gates in
the morning.
Villagers have to wait for the AR to open the
gates because there are no other optional routes to reach
their respective villages.
This has created much inconven-
ience for the villagers for the last many years, the father of
the deceased said.
The border villages have formed a JAC to address the
plight of the people and to demand action against the erring
duty commander, this correspondent reports.
JAC convener FR Ningshen said a complaint has been
lodged against the duty commander of Bungdung, Kashung
at Kasom Khullen police station.
The JAC has also communicated with the Superintend-
ent of Ukhrul, TNL president and the co-coordinator
NPHMR seeking intervention on the same matter.
They
have also urged the authorities concerned to look into the
matter at the earliest.
