ATSUM holds joint meeting with PCM, clarifies over absence of teachers

With an aim to improve President College Motbung as part of its endeavours to streamline the education of Government colleges and schools in the hill districts, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur held a joint meeting with the college authority and teachers on March 22 at the college Jubilee Hall.
The joint meeting was attended by 45 Assistant Professors and 22 Non-teaching staffs led by the College Principal while Kakai Singsit, education secretary, ATSUM led the student body including KSO Sadar Hills and PCM Student Union.
Speaking to media persons, Kakai Singsit said that an exhaustive discussion with suggestions, strategies on how to develop the college were deliberated during the joint meeting.
He continued that the joint meeting resolved to form a committee consisting of 11 Assistant and Associate Professors, civil societies and local clubs to chalk out strategies and action plans for increasing the student attendance.
It was also resolved that the committee shall chalk out plans for sensitizing the public as well as the students of the college, he added.
ATSUM education secretary further said that the teachers have also ensured to put full effort in their performance.
Appealing the student community to attend their classes regularly, Kakai Singsit said that regular classes have already commenced with enthusiastic attendance on the part of the teaching staff while ATSUM is taking serious note of various shortage of infrastructures and amenities in the college.
He also urged all parents and guardians to extend their cooperation and support for the upliftment of the college.
Regarding the statement of the union, during its tour on March 19 at the College, alleging the irregularity of teachers at the College, ATSUM clarified that the teachers who were found absent on that particular day were attending the National Science Congress at Manipur University, Imphal as per the instruction of the Government.
He also clarified that it was not intentional and was not attempting to blemish the decent performance of the faculty but a mere lack of information while appealing the public and the teaching staff not to misunderstand the statement.
