Imphal, November 23 2012:
The Supreme Court of India has expressed shock over the attitude and orientation of the affidavit filed by the Government of Manipur on case of extrajudicial executions.
In the hearing of the case, which was listed as item number 2 in court number 4 of the apex court today, a two-member bench asked the counsel of Manipur Government, "How can a State Government files an affidavit stating that they are killing "us" and so we are killing "them".
Are we in a state of war?..
Are you trying to make the National Human Rights Commission an alibi to all the killing?" .
Taking serious note of the matter, the apex court asked the Additional Solicitor General of India to be present in the Court.
The matter was passed over and in the presence of the Additional Solicitor General the court ordered the Central Government and the National Human Rights Commission to file their affidavit by December 2 and fixed December 4 as date of the next hearing.
In another petition filed against prolonged imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1985 in Manipur, the Supreme Court has fixed December 4 for next hearing of the petition after the Union Government sought time for submitting its response.
The petition has been filed by Dr Th Suresh Singh, former Director of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Manipur.
Today's hearing was the fourth hearing of the petition.
