Two day Pengba mela on Oct 28

Imphal, October 23 2019: In connection with the Ningol Chakkouba festival, a two day Pengba fish mela will be organised at S Tomba and Sons Pengba Farm Hiyangthang on October 28, conveyed the proprietor cum managing director of the Pengba Farm, Soibam Surchandra.

Speaking to media persons at his farm in Hiyangthang today, Surchandra said that Pengba weighing above 300 gram will be sold during the mela at Rs 600 per kg.

He stated that necessary preparations are being made to produce more than 15,000 kg of Pengba and only 1000 Ngaton, as there has been scanty rainfall this year.

Ngaton will be sold at the rate of Rs 500 per kg, he added.

Other fish varieties like Rou, Mirgal and Catla will also be made available during the mela, he said and added that interested individuals can pre-book Pengba from October 23 onwards.

He assured that more than 15,000 kg of Pengba and Ngaton will be produced for the mela next year.

It can be mentioned that S Tomba and Sons Pengba Farm Hiyangthang has been taking part at fish melas held in connection with Ningol Chakkouba from 1999 to 2013 and achieved many awards as well.

In 2014, it was recognised as Pengba pioneer farm and since then S Tomba and Sons Pengba Farm has been organising Pengba mela every year.
