Ukhrul, July 23 2011:
Miscreants exploded a bomb inside the old Mini Secretariat office building of Ukhrul which houses the Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (ADC) in the wee hour of Saturday.
According to Police, the blast occurred at around 2.40am inside the office of the Autonomous District Council in Ukhrul, while causing some damages to the building.
However, no casualty was reported from the explosion.
Police also recovered another unexploded crude bomb from the site where the explosion took place.
Police said the blast could be the handiwork of some miscreants, while it refrained from pointing its fingers to any anti-ADC groups.
The ADC, which is reconstituted in the hill districts of Manipur with an election held last year after a gap of 20 years, was discarded by Naga frontal organizations and remained a contentious issue.
Since the election conducted in May last year, the Naga bodies have been demanding for scrapping of the ADC constituted under the provision of the Third Amendment of Manipur Autonomous District
Council Act (2008) .
The incident that happened inside the ADC office, which is under 24-hour security vigil, has baffled the denizens of Ukhrul.
"How could such incident happen in an office which is under constant security vigil? There must be security lapses," Akhui, a concerned social worker, said.
The bomb blast is a second attack to ADC offices in less than two months with the last incident on May 28 when a powerful car-bomb rocked the combined office complex of the ADC in Imphal, which left three persons seriously injured.
