MSP celebrates 80th B'Day, honours literary luminaries

The 80th Foundation Day of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (MSP) was celebrated today at its premises located at Sangaipat, Imphal East district with Dr Kh Loken Singh, ex-MLA of Sagolband A/C and Prof Elangbam Dinamani, president of the Parishad attending as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Giving key note address, Dr Khundongbam Gokulchandra, general secretary of MSP, stated that the Parishad was established in 1935 with Dwijamani Sharma as its secretary.
Since then, it has been focusing on strengthening Manipuri literature through various activities.
He informed that the Parishad has now more than 400 life members including many renowned artistes and appealed to the public for continued support to it in all its endeavours for the development of Manipuri literature.
In his speech, Prof Dinamani said that artistes of the State who have received awards in recognition of their contribution towards the Manipuri literature should be honored.
Apart from sports, arts and culture, it is the Manipuri literature that is earning accolades and introducing Manipur to the world today, he added.
During the function, Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba, Sahitya Akademi Awardee 2014; Dr Soibam Ibocha Singh, Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2013; Raghu Leishangthem, Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2013 awardee; Akhom Yandibala, Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2013 awardee and Nongmaithem Nandaraj Singh, Lalit Kala Akademi 2013 awardee were felicitated by presenting certificates and gifts.
