Kangpokpi, February 22 2015:
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Sunday expressed dismay with the fallout of the recent problems caused by differences of views between Missionary or Catholic Schools in the State and organisations with regard to the lottery system for admission.
ATSUM President Emboi Serto said that the union was disturbed over the ban/boycott of missionary in Catholic educational institutions in the State and the introduction lottery system for admission to the schools.
Terming the fallout as "uncalled for", Serto also said that "If learning or teaching of moral education is not acceptable to other religious community, let only those communities who accepted the same, be admitted in the Missionary/Catholic Schools" .
He asked "Is the controversy over the Missionary/Catholic Schools in the state, the intention to discriminate and cause distress to the Christian community in the state?" .
ATSUM said the union invited a healthy debate on the issue of admission in Catholic/Missionary Schools in State so as to avoid misunderstanding and solve the problem once and for all.
He also appealed the Manipur Maoist and other student bodies and whoever interested to contact ATSUM office for a debate.
