JAC to claim victims' corpses

Inspite of a Government order setting 2 pm of December 21 as the deadline to claim the bodies of Soram Ibomcha and his son Yaiphu, a public meeting convened by the JAC formed in connection with murder has decided to claim them at 11 am tomorrow.
Speaking to newspersons after the public meeting at Irilbung Panthoibi Keithel this evening, JAC convenor Manihar Luwang informed that among others, the meeting resolved to launch intense agitation in case Public Health Engineering Department Chief Engineer Mangsatabam Imomacha is not relieved of his present designation within December 25. Confiding that decision to claim the bodies had been taken on.

He also informed that financial assistance received on the day of Shradh of the victims would be handed over to either the Chief Minister, PHE Minister or the new PHED Chief Engineer for further assistance to marginalised employees of the Department.
Earlier, speakers at the public meeting attended by representatives of various organisations evoked strong condemnation against the inhumane and unjustifiable murder of the father-son duo with many decrying that targeting of innocent people by armed organisations is not only anti-revolutionary but is also an affront to all the people of Manipur.The fact that Ibomcha and Yaipu were gunned down for the PHED authorities not complying to monetary demand of KCP-MTF (Kesho Meitei) group drew flak from different speakers who reminded that there is no place in the society for armed organisation whose sole intention is earning easy money and disrespectful of human value.
The meeting also entrusted the JAC to take any measure on the said issue.
Among others, the meeting held from 10 am till about 4 pm was attended by representatives of Imphal East united Clubs Organisation, Nupi Samaj, Apunba Nupi Khunai, South Eastern United Clubs Organisation, Lamjing Meitei Lup (Yairipok), Panthoibi Lamjing Meira Lup, Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (Khurai) as well as women, youth and student organisations of Keirao Bitra, Irilbung, Bamon Kampu and Irilbung Kalika.
Condemning the killing, the JAC observed 24 hours general strike from December 19 midnight.
On the same issue, a KCP-MC group is enforcing three days Manipur bandh which commenced from this morning.
It may be noted that some armed persons, who identified as activists of KCP-MTF (Kesho Meitei), abducted Irilbung water supply scheme care-taker Soram Ibomcha and his son Yaipu alias Geetchandra on December 7.night from the father's residential quarter.

The said outfit claiming involvement in the killing of the father-son duo contended that they were slain to protest defiance by the PHED Chief Engineer on the monetary demand served to the Department.
