UNLF to punish all guilty of burning paddy

While strongly condemning the acts of burning paddy stacks as reported from different parts of the State this harvest season, the proscribed UNLF has sworn to punish all the culprits .
Paddy stacks belonging to Laishram Samananda and Takhellambam Athouba were found reduced to ashes at Keinou Thongkha, Bishnupur district on November 17; paddy stacks of one pari belonging to Jacob Hmangte were found reduced to ashes at Saikul Hill Town Loukol, Senapati district on November 23; paddy stacks collected from three sangams and one sangam belonging to Pukhrambam Khomei Devi and Michael Kamei were found burnt down on November 24 at Loktak Project Santipur Lampat Loukol; paddy stacks of one sangam belonging to Sapam Jitendra were found reduced to ashes at Bashikhong Kaijipat on November 29 and paddy stacks collected from three sangams belonging to Sinam Bijoy were found reduced to ashes at Khumbong Maning Sagol Tongba Makha Leikai on December 17, said a press release issued by the outfit's department of publicity director M Sak-hen .
Such bestial acts of burning down paddy stacks thereby spoiling the labour and investment of the farmers for a whole season look like a deliberate policy of some anti-social elements .
This is a big challenge to the entire peasant community.
It is huge threat not only to the farmers but also to the entire population of the State.
It is a deliberate policy aimed at reducing the agricultural productivity of Manipur, the outfit asserted .
All the people ought to condemn such bestial acts of burning paddy stacks and everyone should cooperate to identify the culprits, it said .
It further informed that all those involved in burning paddy stacks would be awarded befitting punishment.
