Imphal, November 19 2011:
Protesting against the failure of the owner of an oil pump to communicate in time, thus resulting in deprivation of fuel even after waiting in the queue for whole night, drivers of autorickshaw and Tata Magic passenger services stayed away from work and staged a Wakat Meepham today.
The incident occurred at Lembisana Service Centre, Sawombung under Imphal East district.
According to information received by the press, on learning about allocation of diesel for public sale today, a large number of autorickshaws and Tata Magics lined up at the said oil pump since last night.
At around 7.30 am today, the oil pump started issuing fuel when some representatives of Transport Societies' Association landed and prevented further distribution of fuel, claiming that the diesel being distributed was meant for issuing against the permits of the transporters only.
Holding the owner of the oil pump responsible for misunderstanding, the autorickshaw and Tata Magic drivers staged an impromptu Wakat Meepham at the ground of Yaipha Lamjing Kanglup, Chingarel.
As a consequence, passenger services in areas like Sekta, Lamlai, Kamong, Napetpalli, Sawombung, Lamlong, Keibi, etc remained affected for the day.
