CM calls for protecting Manipur's integrity
4th Tribal Cultural Fest Kicks Off; Variegated Traditional Items Showcased

Manipur belongs to communities from both the hills and the valley and the people of the State should always protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, said Chief Minister O Ibobi on Wednesday.
He was speaking at the 4th State Level Tribal Cultural Festival organised by Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Manipur and sponsored by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India at Chingmeirong, Imphal.
Attending the function as the Chief Guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that Manipur Government has been continuously making efforts to bring development to the hill and valley districts.
Hills and valley together formed Manipur and the future generation could be saved from unforeseen future if there is a sense of unity.

"A small State like Manipur could stand tall on the world stage because of the age-old traditions and customs of our forefathers.
Moreover, the Government has always focused on preserving and protecting the indigenous customs and traditions of the State, said O Ibobi.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also stated that the State Government is mulling a plan to set up TRIs in every district based on necessities.
Attending the opening ceremony as the President, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated that Manipur can never be a developed State until social, political, economic and cultural developments are brought about both in the hills and the valley.
Gaikhangam called on the people of the State to preserve the principles of unity in diversity and said the State Level Tribal Cultural Festival could play a positive role in Manipur's integration.
The Deputy Chief Minister who is also the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also condemned those civil society organisations that had announced the boycott of Sangai Festival scheduled to begin from November 21 .
"Manipur is home to cultures and heritages of different communities and trying to boycott the Sangai Festival expected to be attended by people from all corners of the world, are the works of sick minds whose objectives will never be fulfilled," said Gaikhangam.
The TRI festival which was held with the theme "Tribal Culture for National Integration" was attended by Parliamentary Secretary Victor Keishing, Saikul A/C MLA Yamthong Haokipa and Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing as Guests of Honour.
Chairmen of Autonomous District Councils also attended the festival which will conclude on Thursday.
Rich traditional and cultural programmes were showcased by various indigenous tribes during the festival.
