Suangdoh locals donate 1-day MGNREGA wage to CM COVID-19 Fund

As the nation toss-up all its resources to join the fight against coronavirus, tribal villagers from a remote part of the State have donated their one-day MGNREGA wage to the Chief Minister's COVID-19 Relief Fund today.
The MGNREGA cardholders of Suangdoh, a newly created sub-divisional headquarters located about 64 km from the Churachandpur district headquarters and about 8 km from the Indo-Myanmar border has, through their village chief Paukhenkhup Guite, handed over Rs 40,000 to the Deputy Commissioner Churachandpur.
Speaking to journalist, Guite said his villagers have on April 10 decided to donate their one-day wages during a meeting held at Hausa Inpi.

The contribution is a testament of the commitment and care they received from the Government before and after the onslaught of the deadly pandemic, he said adding, 'while the financial contribution of the hill people to the Nation is meagre, the Government of India has over the years developed the hill areas, especially remote villages along the Indo-Myanmar border in many spheres' .
In terms of connectivity, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) recently completed the rehabilitation of Guite Road (NH-102B) in high quality and standard.
The State Government further introduced Manipur State Transport (MST) bus service on this road and won the hearts of the people and restored their faith in the Government, he added.
Saying that even after the coming of the pandemic, the villagers who are running short of daily essential commodities have received a free ration of rice and other materials, he maintained that the donation was made to contribute their bit to the Nation that gave them so much.
