Imphal, August 17 2020:
Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB), L Radhakishore Singh has stated that they have started taking legal actions against people who attempted to dump solid waste/rubbish elsewhere.
Notably, L Radhakishore Singh is also an MLA of Oinam Assembly Constituency.
Speaking to media persons, during a press meet held at MPCB office at Lamphelpat, today, L Radhakishore continued that they rounded up some people who tried to dump sacks of solid waste at Lamphelpat near Shija Hospital on Sunday.
He said that MPCB has been on high alert for many days to catch such dumpers red-handed.
Saying that sections of people have a habit of discarding leftovers/rubbish discreetly in unattended places, the chairman lamented that MPCB has been urging all to stop practising such unethical and unhygienic habit at once.
Though there was an instance where a team of Lamphel police and MPCB nabbed people who tried to dump garbage at a public place and imposed fine on them, some people still do the same things over and over again, the chairman rued.
Further stating that MPCB, yesterday, stopped some people who came on a DI Tata from dumping sacks of solid waste at Lamphelpat near Shija Hospital, L Radhakishore asserted that necessary legal actions will be initiated against them.
Such uncontrolled dumping of garbage is an anti-people and anti-environment act, he opined and appealed all to dispose of garbage in an eco-friendly way.
While Th Jitenkumar, Legal Officer of MPCB, said that the board has an authority to penalise officials of MAHUD and Municipal Councils under section 15 of Environmental Protection Act if they failed to perform their duties related to solid waste disposal.
He also appealed all to refrain from disposing of garbage in any parts of Imphal city, cautioning that people who violated the instruction will be dealt with accordingly.
