Two individuals acquitted from sexual assault and murder charges

Imphal, March 17 2019:
Gaiphulshillu Golmei, Sessions Judge, Imphal East, acquitted two persons, one from a sexual assault case and another from a murder case, yesterday.
In the first case, Kongbrailatpam Dhananjoy Sharma s/o Bhishma of Moirang Kampu Sajeb Makha Leikai was acquitted from the charges levelled against him for sexually assaulting a woman on March 4, 2001, at Moirang Kampu Sajeb Makha Leikai, under Porompat PS, after the prosecution failed to provide reasonable evidences that he committed the sexual assault.
Dhananjoy was reportedly arrested on March 6, 2001 by the police following a complaint lodged by the son of the victim the previous day claiming that on March, 4, at about 12.30 pm, his mother (victim) was raped by Dhananjoy.
The IO of the case, following the completion of necessary investigation, submitted charge sheet against Dhananjoy but he pleaded not guilty before the Court and prayed for a trial.
During the trial, 14 prosecution witnesses were examined by the Court.
Finally the Court acquitted Dhananjoy of all the charges framed/levelled against him.
On the other hand, regarding the second case, one Amit Chouhan was acquitted from the charge of murdering his father on July 12, at around 2 pm, in a rented house located at Dolaithabi Awang Leikai, under Sagolmang PS.
Amit Chouhan s/o (L) Boam Bahadue Chouhan of Diolaithabai Awang leikai was arrested following a complaint filed by his mother.
After the completion of the investigation, charge was framed but Amit prayed for a trial.
During the trial, 11 prosecution witnesses were examined before the Court finally passed an ordered yesterday acquitting Amit Chouhan from all the charges levelled against him and cancelling the bonds furnished by him.
