Imphal, January 17 2020:
The 291st Puya Mei Thaba Ningshing Kumon, was observed at Ibudhou Pakhangba Laikol, Uchiwa today.
As a part of the observation, which was organised by International Observation Committee On Puya Meithaba (ICOP), titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba hoisted the 7 colour flag of Kangleipak.
Stressing on the importance of the observation, he said that if such an even was not organised, then the people might have forgotten or cared less about their ancient cultures, traditions, languages and texts.
He explained that PhD and research can be done on translating the books written in Bengalis scripts to Meitei Mayek and added that this also needs the attention from the State Government He said that there are many Manipuri books which are still written in Bengali scripts and many of these books contain various important details or knowledge about Manipur culture, traditions and more.
Many of the youngsters today cannot read bengali script as Meitei Mayek has been included in the school syllabus.
Manipur writers, who are familiar with Bengali scripts, must ensure that they publish their books or works in Meitei Mayek as well.
This will prevent the hectic rush of rewriting the books written in Bengali scripts to Meitei Mayek.
Sanajaoba then conveyed that it is high time for the organisations, which are working to preserve the Meitei culture/traditions etc, to work together by settling all differences.
This effort will improve and streamline the cult of Meitei culture, traditions, among other, he added.
As a part of the observation, Maichou Ningshing Mana was handed over to Hamom Dhani from Jiribam and Chingmi Tammi Nungshi Lipun Mana was given to Benjamin Tao of Senapati district.
Speaking at the event, Benjamin Tao expressed desire to organise such events in the hill districts so that the people will be able to understand and learn about Puya Mei Thaba or burning of the Meitei's sacred texts.
