Chandel school set on fire

The administrative block of Maha Union Higher Secondary School at Chandel was set on fire by unidentified miscreants in wee hours today.
Two rooms of the Administrative block building, which were constructed under RMSA, 2009-10, have been razed to the ground in the fire which broke out at around 12.15 am.
Apart from various documents, the estimated loss in the fire is said to be around Rs 25 lakhs including Rs 2 lakhs in cash.
On receiving the report of the fire, fire brigade rushed in but could not save the building.
However, fire fighters managed to control the fire from spreading to surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, condemning the act of burning down the Administrative building of Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro has termed it as extremely unfortunate act of cowardice.

The Minister said that burning of a school at a time when the State Government is feeling disappointed for not being able to develop the educational institutions of the State according to its wishes due to financial restraints, is unwanted and very unfortunate.
This is not the right approach to agitate.
If at all the agitators are unsatisfied with anything whatsoever, the reason should be made known to the concerned authorities so that an amicable solution could be brought about.
He further stated that a case has been taken up in this connection by the police and the culprits involved in the crime would be arrested and punished in accordance to the law.
He also appealed to all concerned to consider the Government institutions as ones' own houses.
Different CSOs of Chandel have also condemned the burning down of the lone Government Higher Secondary School in Chandel district head quarters and they are all set to organize a mass silent protest rally on August 19 in Chandel district headquarters.
Mongsang Tribe Union (Sirti Upa Ruh) also condemned the school burning incident in the strongest terms and said that it is an uncivilized act and the law enforcing agency of the State should booked the culprits at the earliest possible.
