Imphal, July 16 2018:
Urging the State Government to recommend the Central Government for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe list, a sit in protest was staged by Scheduled tribe Demand Committee (Budha) at Keishampat Yumjao Lairembi community hall today.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, STDCM publicity secretary Waikhom Ananda Meetei stated that the Central Government had directed the State Government in 2012, to send the ethnographic report of the Meitei community along with the latest socio economic report.
However, the failure of the State Government to send the recommendation has forced the committee to organise the protest demonstration.
STDCM has been taking up democratic form of agitations from the beginning and has been waiting for a positive step from the State Government for the last six months, he said.
The committee has been negotiating to all the requests of the State Government for a healthy dialogue but no concrete solution to the demand has been delivered till date, Ananda added.
Ananda further stated that Deputy Chief Minister and Works Minister, who were nominated by CM N Biren to act as communicators, have also failed to respond to the plights of the committee.
Apart from Submitting memorandum to the Chief Minister and making several appeals, the committee has decided to launch stringent agitations, he said and cautioned that the State Government will be held responsible for any unwanted incidents which might occur.
He further warned that the CM should consider the upcoming agitations including bandhs and blockade as an invitation by himself as a result of the inaction of his Government.
