HC intervention sought to cancel land deeds procured without clearance: Shyamkumar

Imphal, January 16 2020: Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar has said that the Forest Department and the Environment Directorate, are taking various steps to conserve and protect the forest, wetlands and hills of the State.

He further said that the Departments are seeking the High Court's intervention regarding cancellation of the land deeds (pattas) which were wrongly allotted earlier in reserved areas, Government lands among others.

Stating that the blame for wrong doings can not be put on anyone, he said the Departments have been collecting land deeds records which were allotted to the individual without permission/clearance from the concerned Departments as required under law.

The Minister said that as a solution, the Departments are demanding cancellation of such land deeds.

Minister Shyamkumar made the statement at the release function of the yearly wall calendar of the Environment Directorate at his office chamber in New Secretariat today.

He said that the works and developmental programmes of the Environment Directorate have been covered in the yearly calendar.

He further said that the officers and staffs of the Environment Directorate are working whole heartedly for the conservation of the environment, taking into consideration various challenges like climate change which is one of the biggest threats in the present day.

Encouraging the officers and staff to continue their efforts in environmental conservation, he assured full support to the officials of the Environment Directorate from the Government.

Officers and staff of the Environment Directorate led by Director Dr Y Nabachandra Singh attended the release function of the yearly calendar of the Directorate.
