Tribal Food Mela held at Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, September 15 2018:
Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi in collaboration with District Administration, Kangpokpi held a one-day Tribal Food Mela cum Health Camp at Brig Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi today under the aegis of the Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month), which was launched since early this month.
During the programme, Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi Dr Rangitabali Waikhom (IAS), in her key note address, stated that the main objective of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, which is an initiative of Ministry of Women and Child Development, is to address various nutritional challenges in the country and also to impart the people the importance of nutrition, education, healthy diet and hygiene.
She further stated that education and development are like two sides of a coin.
"We have to give priority to education if we want to bring development.
We also need better health for happiness and nutrition is an important part of healthy life", she stated.
Kangpokpi has vibrant and rich cuisines, however, people should pay sufficient attention to nutrition and healthy diet, she added.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Chairman, Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi Haokholal Hangshing stressed on the need of collective effort both from Administrative Staff and elected members of the Autonomous District Council for the successful implementation of National Nutrition Mission in the district.
He also urged the people to eat nutritional foods to remain active and healthy.
CEO, Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi, T Manihar Singh (MCS), Commandant, 38 Assam Rifles Col VM Nathan, ADC, Kangpokpi Joel G Haokip (MCS), staff of District Administration, Kangpokpi, ADC members, Kangpokpi, school children, teachers, village leaders, villagers, etc attended the function while varieties of fruits, vegetables, grains, juice, and prepared food were put on display in the Tribal Food Mela.
