AR seized betel nuts worth Rs 18 lakh

Ukhrul, February 15 2020:
In continuation of its crusade against smuggling in the border villages of Ukhrul district, Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) intercepted three trucks, which smuggled in betel nuts worth around Rs 18 lakh, at the vehicle check post along Ukhrul-Tadubi road yesterday.
During a routine checking of vehicles at the check post, troops of Tadubi Post stopped three Tata 407 trucks at around 9.45 pm, and found each trucks carrying 2000 kg of betel nuts.
The drivers were not in possession of any authority papers or challan, said PRO, IGAR.
It was ascertained that the load of betel nuts belonged to a dealer from Ukhrul Bazaar and was being transported to Mao gate.
The recovered contraband load has been handed over to Customs Department at Imphal.
The approximate market of the seized items is Rupees 18 lakh.
