Imphal, January 15 2019: Condemning the attempt to appoint RIMS Account Officer on contract basis, Clerical Welfare Association and Non Teaching Employee Welfare Association, of RIMS, locked the Administration Block of the institute today.

The associations also cautioned that if the authority concerned fails to take up any positive steps, the protest will continue further.

Speaking to media persons, general secretary of Non Teaching Employee Welfare Association, Th Babu demanded RIMS authority to immediately withdraw its attempt to appoint an Account Officer on contract basis.

He explained that as per the rules, the Account Officer should be appointed from among the clerks and if there is no eligible candidate, the posts should be filled through direct recruitment.

He continued that the associations have been appealing the authority concerned not to appoint the Account Officer on contract basis, adding that if it was unavoidable, then the candidate's age should be above 45 years of age.

Demanding the authority concerned to promote a clerk as the Account Officer, he expressed suspicion that if the said post is filled through contract basis, it will eventually get regularised.

If the authority fails to heed the demand of the associations, the protest will continue further, he added.
