JNIMS nurses resume protest

Imphal, November 14 2019: Denouncing the failure of the State Government to translate the MoUs signed with the representatives of Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), JNIMS Unit, nurses of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) have resumed its long suspended agitation by staging a sit-in protest in front of the office building of institute' s Medical Superintendent.

The sit-in-protest was organized under the aegis of TNAI, JNIMS Unit.

Speaking on the sideline of the protest demonstration, TNAI, JNIMS Unit Joint Secretary Ph Janapriya informed that despite giving assurances on numerous occasion by the State Government, none of the understandings that have been reached between TNAI, JNIMS Unit and State Government (except some demands) are translated into action.

She further informed that the remaining demands of JNIMS's nurses which are yet to be fulfilled include rectification of grade pay, nursing allowance, uniform allowance, high risk allowance, old pension benefit to employee/nurses who have been appointed before 2005, ACP scheme to JNIMS nurses and qualification pay.

Asserting that the JNIMS's nurses have been agitating without affecting their duties, Janapriya claimed that the nurses had even suspended its proposed mass casual leave twice in the past after the signing of MoU.

While conveying that the nurses will carry out sit-in-protest for three consecutive days without any disturbance to their duties, the Joint Secretary warned that the nurses will resort to mass casual leave if the Government continue to ignore or sideline their demands.
