Imphal, July 14 2015 : A devastating fire gutted a tin-roofed workshop for repairing transformers here on Tuesday morning.

According to fire service sources, properties worth over Rs one crore were burned to cinders along with Rs 50,000 in cash.

The mechanic identified as Amakcham James of Thangmeiband Hijam Diwan Leikai was running the workshop in the same locality.

The owner was identified as RK Rita.

The cause of the fire which started at 5 am is not known as yet.

Four machines, two drums, seven transformers, laptops, TV set, generators and other materials worth over Rs one crore were burned to ashes.

Besides Rs 50,000 in cash were burned in the flames.

Three fire tenders and one mini truck with portable pumps were pressed into service.

It took over 40 minutes for the 25 officer and firemen to douse the flames.
