IM 'cadres' remanded to police custody

Imphal, July 14 2014: Eight NSCN (IM) cadres, who were arrested in the aftermath of the assassination of former Ukhrul ADC Vice-Chairman Nga-langzar Malue, were remanded to police custody till July 26 .

They were produced before the Chief Judicial Magis- trate, Imphal East today under FIR No 14 (7) 2014 under Ukhrul Police Station.

The cadres were arrested along with arms, ammunition and incriminating documents by a combined team of State security forces during a raid conducted at NSCN-IM's Wung Region tactical headquarters located at Phungrei- tang in Ukhrul town early yesterday morning.

It may be mentioned that the cadres were deported to Imphal soon after their arrest yesterday.

They have been identified as self styled sgt Wangkem-pam Raiping (31) of Tushar, Ukhrul district, self styled sgt maj Issaicher Jajo (34) of Ninthi village, Ukhrul district, self styled cpl VL Shimray-gam (33) of Teinem village, Ukhrul district, self styled pvt Winki (25) of Mon district, Nagaland, self styled L/cpl Shepachi (22) from Phek district, Nagaland, self styled pvt Longiee (25) of Wangtha district, Anuranchal Pradesh, L/cpl Somrei (27) of Kangpak village, Ukhrul and self styled sgt Khareithing Mung (33) of Allithang village, Ukhrul.

14 wireless sets, two pressure bombs, four AK-47 magazines, two AK-47 live rounds, seven laptops, two computer desktop sets and some incriminating documents related to NSCN/GPRN from 1981- 2014 were recovered during the raid.

It may be mentioned that all of them were arrested barely 24 hours after the assassination of former Vice- Chairman Ngalanzar Malue by suspected heavily armed NSCN-IM cadres on July 12 at around 11.40 am along Imphal-Ukhrul road at Finch Corner under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district.

The deceased along with one of his nephews was on their way to Nongman to visit his ailing mother when the suspected militants launched an attack on them.
