Imphal, October 13 2024:
The 49th General Body Meeting of All Manipur Government Driver's & Technician's Association (AMGD&TA) was held today at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.
It was attended by AMGD&TA working president, Takhellambam Manitomba; chief advisor, S Ibopishak; ex-vice president, K Ibobi; ex-general secretary, Ng Kalachand and retired driver, S Ibochouba as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, AMGD&TA general secretary M Mahesh said that drivers are among the most hard-working communities but they are not given enough credit and salary.
He asserted drivers are prone to health complications and fatigue as their hectic work schedule leaves them with little time to sleep.
He also appealed to the Government to look into the working condition of the drivers and frame a policy for fixing the driving hours.
As part of the event, 11 drivers were presented with simple gifts in recognition of their contributions towards the society.
Moreover, the Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association (MHGEWA) also convened its Annual General Body Meeting at GM Hall, Imphal today.
The meeting deliberated on ways to address the grievances/issues of Home Guard personnel and the course of action in the pending cases at the Supreme Court of India and High Court of Manipur.
At the meeting, MHGEWA president Y Mangi said that the association was compelled to take legal help to address their grievances as the Government did not give equal benefit to the Home Guard personnel as other Government employees.
"Over the years, home guards have been utilised in assisting in various security duties as per the guidelines of the Manipur Home Guards Act and Rules.
However, they are not given equal benefit as the personnel of Manipur Police", said Y Mangi while urging the Government to acknowledge the contributions of the Home Guards.
Further, Y Mangi urged the State Government to stop waiting for the Court's verdict and take necessary steps to fulfil the long standing demands of the association at the earliest.
