Library awareness programme held

Jiribam, October 13 2018:
Manipur Library Association (MALA) in association with Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam organized a '2-day Library Awareness Programme' under the sponsorship of Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF), Kolkata at Community Centre, Jiribam District today around 9 am.
The programme was attended by Kangjam Chaoba Singh, President MALA, Ng Basantakumar Singh, General Secretary Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam, Th Biswanath Singh, Advisory Board Member (Manipuri Language) Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and S Khogendra Singh, President Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam as presidium members.
Sarat Thokchom, Secretary Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Jiribam delivered the welcome address and key note speech while explaining the unlerlying meaning of the awareness programme.
A technical session was also conducted during the programme in which L Sabita Devi, retd Librarian Manipur Public School, Imphal spoke in detail on the topic "Importance of Library in the Creation of reading habits" while S Thoibi Singh, Treasurer Manipur Library Association spoke on the topic "Library: An analogues to Human body" .
H Rajendro Singh, Library & Infn Office NIELIT Imphal also spoke on the subject "Library Development and Digital India" while RK Devarita Devi, retd Lecturer Manipur Public School, Imphal explained thoroughly on the concept "Library and Human Resource Development" .
H Haridas Mangangcha, research scholar Manipur University and Joint Secy Manipur Library Association delved on "Role of Library in Society" while K Chaoba Singh, Library (Selection Grade) Govt Polytechnic Imphal dwelt on "Library Movement in Manipur and Schemes of RRRLF in the Development of Public Library" .

S Khogendra Singh, President Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Jiribam stressed on the importance of Library and the merit of having a library to the society.
Th Biswanath Singh, Advisory Board Member (Manipuri Language) Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi emphasized on the need to encourage the younger generation to develop the habit of reading so that they can be at par with their counterparts in different parts of the country.
Kangjam Chaoba Singh, President MALA, while speaking on the occasion, shared that Manipur Library Association was established in 1987 in Manipur and spread its branch in Jiribam as Manipur Library Association Jiribam.
He rued that said library in Jiribam has inadequate staff sans the required table and chair.
He also urged the authority concerned to provide the necessary elements of the library so that the citizens of Jiribam can enjoy the joy of reading while taking part in the race to development.
