Imphal, October 13 2012:
All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) has demanded Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to elucidate on the recent statement made by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde who said that 'the Centre is talking to Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur Chief Ministers for a consensus on steps relating to the welfare of Nagas living in the two states before it reaches a final settlement with NSCN (IM)' .
Addressing a press meet at its Kwakeithel office here today, President of AMUCO KT Rehman said that the opinion of the Chief Minister as sought by the Union Home Minister over the matter should be made known to the public.
The remark of the Union Home Minister is pregnant with meanings which cannot be taken lightly.
So, the Chief Minister should made known his stand over the issue and a meeting of the State Cabinet should be convened to discuss the matter seriously, Rahman said, adding that dragging Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh into the Naga issue deliberately clearly shows favouritism on the part of India government towards the Naga rebel group.
"The Union Home Minister is trying to disintegrate the people of the hills and the plains apart", he charged.
Observing that the territorial integrity of Manipur has been kept intact by our forefathers for the last many years, Rehman categorically stated that territorial integrity of Manipur could never be compromised under any circumstances and AMUCO would face all that comes on the way.
AMUCO warmly welcomes the Naga peace talk.
But it should not affect the territorial integrity of Manipur, Rehman added.
