Imphal, September 12 2024:
The Committee of Forward Clubs (CFC), Thongju and the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (AMPAL) have questioned the purpose of the violent protests witnessed in Kakwa and adjoining areas at night during the last couple of days.
Saying that majority of the local people/youth are not involved in these violent protests carried out under the cloak of darkness, a press release issued by CFC, Thongju has asked the protesters who came from other places to explain the issue and purpose of their violent protests.
"If the purpose of the protest is clear, we are more than happy to join it", it said.
Organisers of the students' rally said that their protest ended in the afternoon.
As such, the violent protests carried out at night in Kakwa and adjoining areas seemed to be instigated by some people with an intention to lead the people's legitimate movement in a wrong direction, the CFC asserted.
The CFC and the AMPAL know the ongoing crisis every well.
From the very beginning of the crisis, both CFC and AMPAL have pointed out repeatedly who are responsible for the crisis and who should be held accountable.
However, a large section of the people are not prepared even today to tackle the crisis from the right perspective, it said.
"We understand and respect the anger and deeply hurt sentiments of the people at the authorities' failure to contain the violence even after 16 months but we need to introspect and work together to take the people's movement in the right direction," it said.
CFC Thongju and AMPAL then appealed to all the people to stop creating unnecessary and purposeless troubles in the society.
The Asem Leikai Development Club, Kakwa has also appealed to all concerned to stop violent protest at night in Kakwa and adjoining areas.
The violent protest and the security forces' reaction with countless tear gas shells, mock bombs and even live bullets have created a fear psychosis, among the locals, particularly elderly and sick people.
The protesters came from far off places in two-wheelers and four-wheelers and when they were asked the issue and purpose of their protest, they could not give any convincing answer, the Asem Leikai Development Club said in a press release.
