Women to rally against rising crime in society

Concerned over increasing crime against women in Manipur, All Manipur Nupi Marup has decided to observe the 'Nupi Lal Day' 2012 (War of women) on December 12 next in the form of a mass public rally to register protest against crime and violence against women as well as against corruption.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting of 40 different branches of AMNM held at Irabat Bhawan, Rupmahal Tank, AMNM president S Sorojini told a press conference.
Sorojini observed that crime against women and children is increasing in the state and even school going children have not been spared from sexual harassment and physical abuse.
So, it is time for a serious deliberation on the issue.
A public rally exclusively for the women of the state against rising crimes on women will be staged on Nupi Lal day.
The rally will be followed by a public meeting wherein discussions on ways and means to prevent all forms of crimes against women will be taken up, she said and appealed to the people to make the state a crime
free zone.
Ksh Tama, General Secretary of All Manipur Nupi Marup, who was also present during the press conference, said that although there are various welfare schemes for women of all ages, yet the women of the state are deprived the benefits of such schemes.
Even thought there are a number of women organizations in the state, the rate of crimes against women are increasing at a faster rate.
These organizations need to work at their best level to curb crimes against women, she added.
M Shakhi, Vice President of All Manipur Nupi Marup was also present on the occasion.
