Imphal, October 10 2019:
A team of Food Safety Department's officials have carried out a surprise inspection drive at Luwangshangbam Cricket Stadium and its surrounding areas, this morning, where an Army Rally Recruitment is taking place to check if any vendors are selling food items without following the rules and regulations laid down by the department.
Speaking by the sideline of the inspection drive, Designated Officer of Food Safety Department, Imphal East, T Brojendro Khaba Meitei said that the objective of the drive was to check whether the people of that area or FBOs are selling unhygienic food and other edible items by violating the norms of the Food Safety Department.
During the surprised visit, the team inspected about forty food business operators (FBOs) and found various edible items having no batch and code numbers, apart from having unclear manufacturing and expiry dates.
He then appealed to all concerned to be aware of such food items without batch and code numbers while purchasing and to inform the department in case they run into such unhygienic items to take up legal actions.
On the other hand, Directorate of Health Services, Additional Food Safety Commissioner Dr K Rajo Singh, in connection with the upcoming festivals like Diwali and Ningol Chakouba, has issued an office memorandum to all the Designated Officers to continue inspecting suspected foods items and FBOs.
