Imphal, July 10 2014:
Shamurailatpam Premananda Sharma, general secretary of Manipur Pradesh BJP, today hailed Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for allocating Rs 100 crore in the Union budget for setting up a sports university in Manipur, saying it is a prolific step.
"Our dream has come true as Rs 100 crore has been allocated in the Union Budget for establishing a sports university in the State," Premananda told Hueiyen Lanpao.
The people of the State have been urging the Centre to set up a sports university for the State since 2008, the BJP leader said.
He recounted that senior BJP leader LK Advani lauded sportspersons of the State while participating in the Manipur's Patriots' Day celebration at LTB Auditorium, New Delhi on August 13, 2008 .
At the function, the Manipuris who were present there urged Advani to set up a sports university, Premananda recalled.
"I called on Advani to declare Manipur as a sports capital," he further said.
"Recently, I also met DoNER Minister VK Singh in New Delhi and urged him to set up a sports university in Manipur," Premananda added.
He, however, said the credit must go to the sportspersons of the State.
