Mumbai, June 10 2021:
Filmmaker Raja Krishna Menon and an established actor were expected to collaborate on a biopic on celebrated Manipuri boxer, Ngangom Dingko Singh.
The actor wanted to become a producer with this film and had also often expressed that he was keen to headline the cast.
Schedules of the film had been planned in Manipur, Delhi and an undisclosed international location but the plan didn't materialise.
This was in 2019 .
Today, Dingko Singh passed away at the age of 52, after battling cancer, which had recently relapsed.
Raja Krishna Menon rues his passing and that the film celebrating his achievements and spotlighting his journey did not get made while he was still alive.
The filmmaker says, "Dingko Singh's health had begun to deteriorate in the last few months.
I had been meaning to speak with him but I hadn't done that in recent times.
We had some friends in common and hence, I knew about him.
Today, I wish I had made that phone call and spoken to him.
I remember meeting him and spending some time with him while working on the biopic's screenplay and story.
It sadly got pushed on the backburner.
I hope it gets made now because it's a beautiful story of a journey that is less heard of.
Dingko was such an interesting person and what he achieved was marvellous.
I wish we made the biopic while Dingko Singh was still alive.
He fought cancer bravely in the first go and thought it had been wiped out of his system but it raised its ugly head again and this time, Dingko succumbed.
I wish the interest in his biopic returns and it gets made because his is a life that should be duly saluted and celebrated by all of us" .
