Letpao inspects Khuga dam, warns illegal encroachers

CCpur, December 09 2019: Water Resources and YAS Minister Letpao Haokip, today, inspected the Khuga Multipurpose Project at Churachandpur with top officials of the Water Resources Department.

Addressing the media persons, the Minister said that there should not be any habitations, illegal encroachments and constructions of farms resorts/houses within 150 metres distance from the basin of any multipurpose project as per the Flood Plain Zoning Act 1978 .

He maintained that habitation and setting up of farms/resorts within this diameter at the banks of Khuga Dam have hindered the smooth functioning of the project and has prevented the project from fulfilling its target objectives.

The Water Resources Minister appealed to the public to adhere to the guidelines of the Flood Plain Zoning Act 1978 so as not to disrupt in the objectives of such developmental projects.

Before the inspection visit, the Minister also graced the opening function of the 1st Pu Demkhosiek Gangte Memorial Open Volleyball Tournament 2019 at the Peace Ground, Tuibong, Churachandpur HQ .
