POCSO deliberated

A one-day block level awareness programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 organized by All Tribal Rights Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) under the sponsorship of Manipur Commission of Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) was held on Tuesday at Longmai Community Hall, Noney, reports NNN.
Sumatibala Ningthoujam, chairperson of MCPCR and T Chuongsin Koireng, coordinator of Women Wing of ATRPFM attended as chief guest and president of the programme respectively.
K Pradipkumar, MCPCR member spoke on the topic "POCSO Act" while Montu Ahanthem spoke on the "JJ Act" and Ch Nabachandra Singh talked on the "RTE Act".
According to Sumatibala, education is the backbone to establish a healthy society in the State.
The failure of education system has led to degradation of morality in the society, she stated.
She also said that crimes are committed by drug users and other 'immoral persons'.
She further stated that 'misuse' of social media and other electronic devices are also some of the factors contributing to the increase of the crime rate in the State.
Sumatibala said that the parents should be made to be aware of the provisions and punishments given in the various Acts.
Siamatibala stated that MCPCR will organize awareness campaigns in all parts of the State to give awareness about the Acts especially to the parents.
Sumatibala sought the support from all sections of the society and parents to protect children while mentioning that MCPCR is established specially for the protection of child rights.
Speaking on the occasion, K Pradeep said that after the introduction of POCSO Act justice to the victims can be delivered in six months.
"But cases disposed under POCSO Act are less in Manipur compared with die States of Mizoram and Nagaland," K Pradeep also said.
Ch Nabachandra highlighted the importance of implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act.
