An unfortunate incident during which a vehicle in which an election general observer, appointed by ECI, was travelling, was stopped and searched by Assam Rifles, is most likely to reach the ears of the Election Commission of India.
According to a reliable source, the general observer appointed by ECI for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency election, P D Pradhan was travelling to Ukhrul District Headquarters when his vehicles was stopped by 19 Assam Rifles Captain Dhiraj Gautam, in the afternoon.
The source revealed that the Assam Rifles authority did not pay any heed when the general observer tried to explain his identify.
The AR personnel neglected him and started checking his vehicle as well as all the other vehicles that came along with him, added the source.
It was only when P D Pradhan informed about the situation to the Chief Electoral Officer and the Ukhrul DC that the AR personnel allowed the general observer and his team to leave.
Regarding the incident, the general observer submitted a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer and the CEO is likely to give a detailed report of the matter to the ECI, conveyed the source.
