Imphal, December 08 2011:
The proscribed UG group RPF on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day urged the people of the state to fight for their right.
In a press statement RPF stated that the Sanamahi philosophy and its history recorded in the Puyas clearly show how the Meeteis upheld their rights since ancient times.
Citing an example, the statement mentioned that the story of Sanamahi Nongkhong Koiba is a solid example of upholding rights where in the Supreme God Salailel Sidaba conferred Lainingthou Sanamahi the title of the immortal king.
The incident of Numit Kappa is another example of upholding of human rights in which a patriot killed the elder of the two kings to free the common people from his tyranny, it stated.
Since then, the incident acted like an antidote to the kings of Manipur against violation of human rights.
The revolt of the Americans against Great Britain in 1776 led to the Declaration of Rights.
Another such incident is the French Revolution in 1789 in which the French society underwent an epic transformation as feudal, aristocratic and religious privileges collapsed under sustained assault from radical left-wing political groups, masses on the streets, and peasants in the countryside.
Old ideas about tradition and hierarchy - of monarchy, aristocracy and religious authority - were abruptly overwhelmed by the new Enlightenment principles of equality, citizenship and inalienable rights.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in its Article 1 states that "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood".
The United Nations since its inception has supported freedom movements across the globe a leading to liberation of 143 countries till 2011 .
The India Government has been violating human rights of the people of the state since Manipur was annexed forcefully into India.
However hard, the India government tries to subdue the ongoing revolution in the state by violating human rights and torturing the innocent peoples, the revolution is still marching ahead with the aim to regain the lost freedom of Manipur which once used to live freely for thousands of years, the statement added.
