Village headman pitches for separate fund for Sana Konung

Asserting that often villages in the hill areas need the presence and involvement of the State's titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba in organising ritual ceremonies and cultural events, as per their customs, headman of Tangkhul Khullen village, Kashung Tennyson fervently appealed to the State Government to allocate a separate fund in the budget for effective functioning of Sana Konung.
He was speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the Ramtho Phanit & Blessing Ceremony Programme organised by Tangkhul Khullen Village Authority at the village today.
Kashung Tennyson said that procession of many sacred rituals in several villages in the hills have been deferred since the last many years due to the absence of titular king as he cannot come to the villages due to financial crunch.
He informed that the blessing ceremony programme at Tangkhul Khullen village was held after many years as the titular king had difficulties in bearing the expenditure of coming at remote villages like Tangkhul Khullen.
He mentioned that villagers of Tangkhul Khullen firmly believe that a Meitei king in the 13th century cursed Tangkhul Khullen village to face hardships with deterioration of the village and shorten life span of the villagers.
The number of aged people still living at Tangkhul Khullen is very low although the village has been progressing after the titular king came to the village and offered prayers and conduct ritual ceremony in 2004, he remarked.
At the ritual ceremony, the villagers had mistakenly noted something related to shortening of life span of the people of Tangkhul Khullen.
With a firm religious belief, the villagers had decided to conduct another ritual ceremony in connection with the matter, he continued.
Leishemba Sanajaoba prayed for wealth and longer life span of the villagers.
The seed sowing festival cum blessing ceremony programme graced by Chief Minister's sister-in-law N Ahanbi Devi as the chief guest was also attended by Reverend Ramror; chief editor of Pandam Shiva Dutta Luwang; president of Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long, Vaomi and several others as the presidium members.
Performance of cultural programmes marked the main events of the function.
