District Youth forum on SRHR initiated

Imphal, June 06 2011:
A district level youth forum on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) was initiated today at the premises of Youth Health Information Centre, Keishamthon Top Leirak, Imphal.
Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayentakumar graced the function as chief guest.
Representatives of students' organisations, youth leaders, media persons, drug and HIV/AIDS activists also attended the function.
The forum was initiated by the Future Development Drug Users' Organisation with technical support from Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO), Alliance India and European Union with an objective to create a consistent dialogue among different stakeholders on SRHR and to empower youth leaders.
Speaking in the occasion, minister Jayenta said that stakeholders including civil society organisations, NGOs and public as a whole need to be united to address the health issues among the youths.
He also said that there is a provision of educating school going children in the State Health Department under its School Health Program.
Under the same initiative, he assured to introduce the provision of SRHR in one or two selected schools.
An open discussion was also held as part of the function and recommended to form an advisory committee consisting of students' organisations, drugs users' activists and media persons.
