Imphal, September 05 2012:
Expressing serious concern over influx of non-Manipuris into the state and their domination in many areas, Coordination Committee (CorCom) of seven UG groups (KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF, UNLF and UPPK) has asked the non Manipuris to go back to their home and put forward certain rules to be abide by Non Manipuris in the state.
In a statement issued by its Media Coordinator, H Poirei, CorCom pointed out that many developed countries including USA, Europe, Australia, Switzerland, France, Russia, etc are facing similar problems of illegal migrants, thus compelling some countries to devise certain rules and regulations to check illegal migrants while some have banned entries of migrants.
Many states in the North East region have also started facing serious threats from unchecked inflow of illegal migrants.
In Tripura, the indigenous Tripuris are today living like refugees in their own land with non locals who came as workers taking control over everything.
Similarly, in Assam, indigenous Assamese, Bodos are being treated as refugees in their own land by the non locals.
The situation is no different in Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, the statement observed.
In case of Manipur, threat from non locals has been looming large since it became a part of India in 1949.There has been no end to the inflow of non locals coming to Manipur as workers and businessmen.
With passage of time, they have taken root expanding their settlement in different parts of the state.
As a result, population of non Manipuris in the state is alarmingly high though census reports did not reflect this.
So, if the people of the state continue to remain silent, the day would not be far when indigenous people would become refugees in the state, it stated.
The statement further appealed to the people of the state to raise their voice against influx of Non Manipuris, both legal and illegal, to save the state from the alleged dirty politics of the India government which aims to liquidate the indigenous people.
If the indigenous people do not like an Assam-like bloodbath in the state, they should stand united as non-locals.
CorCom has also put forwards certain conditions to the indigenous people as the Non Manipuris staying in the state.
Asking all the Non Manipuris to leave the state and go back to their respective homes, CorCom has restricted the native people from renting out or selling houses, shops and lands to non-locals.
It also put restriction on hiring non locals for any type of work and prohibited the non locals from doing any business in the state.
However, if any of the native people are renting out houses and other establishments, they should stop all such activities from the beginning of next year.
CorCom further imposed restriction on issuing No Objection Certificates, Birth Certificates, Voter Identity Cards, documents related with insurance policies and any type of documents to non-locals who may use such documents as proof of their identity in the state.
Furthermore, it asked the transporters and drivers to refrain from bringing in non locals.
However, the restriction will be relaxed for persons visiting the state for a short period in connection with academic activities, Arts & Culture, Sports, religious and business related activities, the statement added.
