Factors responsible for disturbance in academic atmosphere discussed

Various factors affecting the academic atmosphere in the State have been discussed and dissected during a one-day seminar on the theme of 'Disturbance Free Educational Zone organized by Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) at the Central Hall of DM College of Science here today.
Moderated by Prof N Joykumar, Director of Centre for Manipur Studies, Manipur University, Prof L Sadananda, secretary of Senior Citizens for Society; SM Islamuddin, general secretary of Government College Teachers Association, Manipur; Loken, president of All Manipur College Teachers Association; Sumati, secretary of All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation; Joy Khuman, secretary of All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association; Y Nabachabdra, principal of Herbert Higher Secondary School; S Yaima, vice principal of DAV Public School and N Tomba, executive editor of Pandam were among the resource persons who presented papers pointing out loopholes in the existing education system and also suggested remedies.
During the course of the seminar, the resource persons as well as other participants agreed that both state and non-state elements have been disturbing the academic atmosphere in the state for a long time.
They also took note of the fact that certain underground outfits and civil society organisations are using educational institutions to serve their purpose by way of donations.
Based these discussion, the seminar resolved to hold regular meeting among the students, teachers, parents/guardians, intellectuals, representatives of students' organisations and civil society organisations to find out ways and means of deter disturbances and threats given to schools from various quarters and to form a committee to thwart the forces disturbing the academic atmosphere.
