Imphal, December 04 2020:
The AIMS (Apunba Imagi Machasing), Manipur has sought the attention of Governor Dr Najma Heptulla on the poor connectivity at the Indo-Myanmar border region in Ukhrul district.
A representation they submitted to the Governor on December 2 highlighted the grievances of the border region and in particular a village, Khamasom saying many of the villagers have not been able to see the valley of Manipur due to poor connectivity.
Khamasom village is approximately 25 kilometres from Ukhrul along Jessami-Imphal road passing through Zero Mile, Sihai Khullen, Khamasom Walely, Khamasom Khayangkho, Khamasom Phungrei, Phungyar, Sihai Khunou and Huishu villages.
The village, AIMS said, is well known for its scenic beauty and richness in forest vegetation.
It is home to Khamasom Van (Khamasom flower), a rare flower species resembling a snake and the rare Khamasom lilies.
However, there is no proper road and reaching the village is tremendously difficult.
The condition of the connectivity worsens during the rainy season.
People have to walk for a whole day to get to Khamasom village.
"Due to poor road connectivity in the region, many villagers of the Khamasom are not able to see the valley of Manipur in their lifetime," AIMS said seeking intervention of the Governor to improve the connectivity in the border region.
