Imphal, July 04 2011:
R Rehang Chothe today ridiculed the alternative arrangement demand of Naga organisations within the territory of the state terming the demand as the final diplomacy which has nowhere to go.
He was presiding over a book release function of 'The History of Kuki Hill in Kanglei Manipur' written by him held at FB Vengnom Community hall, Tuibong in Churachandpur district.
The Indigenous Kuki Peoples Forum had organized the function.
In his speech, Rehang said that King Chandrakirti of the then Manipur was saved from the assassins of Kamhou king by Kuki soldiers.
Pleased with the bravery of the Kuki soldiers, he allowed the Kukis to reside in the hills without any disturbances.
He said that Manipur government is planning to implement Manipur Land Reforms Act in the hill district.
But it is very much important to implement the 6th Schedule first in the hill district before the implementation of MLR Act lest outsiders find a haven in the hill areas where they can own lands according to their will.
While indigenous people are hesitating to settle in Sadar Hills, Nepalis have already bought large areas of land and have begun to populate the area.
People in hill areas should not hate the Meeteis for past acts of disowning the hill people.
That time has long gone now.
Hills are the body while the valley is the soul and the hills and valley form an integral part of the state.
History is the witness for the Kuki people who have not gone against the acts and decision of the Meeteis unlike the Nagas.
It is unfortunate that the Nagas seek to float a separate state within Manipur.
The 'alternative arrangement' demand of the Nagas which UNC has been bringing up in the tripartite talk as an agenda is the final diplomacy of the Nagas but it has no future.
Chandel ADC member, MK Noah Chothe, Chairman Zoumi Council, LB Sona, Ex Minister Chungsei Haokip, Chairman ADC Chairman, Lhukhosei Zou and Reverend Stephen Chinzathang also attended the function as presidium members.
