Imphal, June 04 2020:
The Manipuri Pony & Polo Players' Welfare Association has demanded the State Government to provide a proper grazing ground for 'Manipuri Pony' .
According to a statement of the association, on June 3 a pony was hit by a speeding vehicle badly injuring one of its legs.
The MP&PPWA volunteers, Singjamei Police and State Veterinary staff admitted the pony at State Veterinary Hospital, Sanjenthong.
However, doctors at the hospital said the bones were badly damaged and it cannot heal completely, it said.
A case has been registered at Singjamei Police Station, it said.
"Since most of the grazing grounds are turning into concrete jungles the Manipuri Ponies have no place left to graze and they are now starting to loiter on the roads.
And sometimes due to poor waste management system, waste materials are scattered around and after eating these wastes some have even died.
"Such cases are increasing day by day," it added.
Strongly urging the State Government to provide a grazing ground at the earliest, it said the Manipuri Pony will perish if something is not done soon.
