Imphal, June 04 2011:
Former minister Francis Ngajokpa today asserted that some persons claiming to be public leaders talk only in the interest of the community or tribe he belongs to only to earn popularity.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a training programme for the Congress on state and central sponsored flagship schemes held at Senapati's Saikul, he blamed that elderly persons are also engaged in such cheap propaganda and are looting the people.
It is only the Meeteis who attend offices even though they are posted in hill areas.
Hill people do not attend or want to attend office in hill areas, the Congress leader asserted.
Hill people follow Christianity and talk of God but they never follow the true path, he said alleging that in the name of God they spew venom on the different communities or tribes.
They do not work sincerely for the development of their people.
They divert funds invested for the development in hill areas and play blame games.
Unless there is a change in this mentality, no development will come up despite implementation of hundreds of flagship schemes, he said.
MPCC chief Gaikhangam attended the inaugural function as chief guest which was presided by MLA Dr Kh Loken.
Chief guest Gaikhangam called for strengthening the unity of the state and to promote development in the state.
He said this at an inaugural function of another training programme for the Congress on state and central sponsored flagship schemes held at Senapati's Saikul today.
"Leave the ideology of separatism and work to strengthen the unity of Manipur so as to make the meaning of Sana Leibak a reality," he said.
Gaikhangam said, Manipur was once a self sufficient state with nature's bountiful gifts and a peaceful state where all sections of the people lived in harmony with the ideology of co-existence.
A true Sanaleibak.
To return to this Sanaleibak, every body has a role to play.
No development will come if we lack responsibility and disown our duties, the MPCC president said.
The Congress party is organizing a series of training programmes at various parts of the state not for the party's benefit or as part of an election campaign but to make aware the people on various flagship schemes taken up by the government's at the Centre and the state and also to assess whether the schemes are reaching the targeted beneficiaries.
Asserting that the party has constituted monitoring cells for the flagship schemes, Gaikhangam said that members of the monitoring cells are assigned to take stock of programme implementation.
A cell should submit its report on the status of the implementation of projects to the party high command who in turn will evaluate the effectiveness of the scheme, he added.
He further said to know whether the development schemes have outreached the people or not and to make rectifications in the mode of implementation if necessary, is the objective of the Congress party.
MLA Dr Kh Loken, who presided the inaugural function of the flagship training programme, reminded that the Congress is the oldest political party in the country and said that no influence could be exerted on it by the recently opened unit of the Naga People's Front (NPF) .
Former ministers, DK Korunthang, Ngamthang Haokip, C Dounggel and Chaltonlian Amo were among others who attended the training programme of the congress workers organized by the Saikul Block Congress Committee.
