Imphal, August 03 2013 :
With the sunken portion of Imphal-Dimapur Road (NH-2) near Phesema in Nagaland fully repaired, vehicles can now ply along this route as usual from tomorrow night, President of Nagaland-based Surface Transport, Eco and Environment Society Bipin Sophi told Hueiyen Lanpao today.
Bipin said that the BRTF officials have informed him of the situation.
The same report on NH-2 was confirmed by Secretary Organization of All Manipur Road Transport and Motor Workers' Union M Anil.
Unfortunately, the State would continue to face shortage of petroleum products even if the sunken portion of NH-2 would be ready for use by tomorrow.
The indefinite bandh called by several civil organizations in Assam from tonight demanding a separate state for Karbi Anglong would be the next factor for shortage of petroleum products in the State.
Most depots of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), from where petroleum products are transported to the State, are located in Karbi Anglong region.
The bandh would further cause shortage of petroleum products in the State.
Meanwhile, officials of IOC informed that 89 oil tankers would leave Jiribam for Imphal at 8 am tomorrow.
In all, 22 petrol tankers, 46 diesel tankers, two kerosene tankers, 18 LPG bullets and two ATF tankers are in the fleet of 89 trucks that would be heading for Imphal tomorrow.
The tankers are expected to reach Imphal by tomorrow evening.
On the other hand, the State Govt has taken up steps to control over the petroleum products in view of their acute shortage in the State.
Accordingly, allocation and monitoring of oil pumps would be done by the State Government from Monday onwards.
