Imphal, June 03 2011:
For the first time after the Autonomous District Councils were set up after a gap of 20 years, Sadar Hills ADC Chairman Sh Seipu has distributed fertilizers, sprayer pumps and other articles to farmers at Motbung today.
Altogether 93 bags of fertilizer, seven bags of crop seeds, 30 sprayer pumps and 1500 saplings of tree been (Yongchak) were distributed to farmers.
All these materials were provided by Horticulture Department.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Seipu said that he would not agree if these materials provided by the Government was a part of devolution of power to ADCs.
Saying that Sadar Hills has around 800 villages with a total population of 1.71 lakh, Seipu asserted that the materials given by the Government for distribution could not cover even one per cent of the population.
"Nevertheless, this is the first time some aid materials are being distributed to farmers of Sadar Hills through the ADC", Seipu noted.
He also called upon the farmers to use these materials carefully so as to produce larger quantities of agricultural produces.
Exuding that the Government would be providing more materials to ADCs for distribution to farmers, Chairman Seipu confided that the Government would be devolving due powers to the ADCs.
