Imphal, May 03 2019:
A physically handicapped candidate who failed to secure an MBBS seat in the 2018-19 academic session, is on the road to securing his lost seat in the coming 2019-20 session.
The individual, identified as one Yaiphaba Laiphrakpam of Khurai Soibam Leikai, had filed a petition with the High Court of Manipur after he failed to secure the MBBS seat which was reserved for handicapped individuals in the 2018-19 session.
The petition was admitted at the High Court and the hearing was conducted on April 3 with Advocate Kabita Thoudam representing the petitioner.
Following the hearing, the Court issued an order on April 9, directing the authority concerned to ensure that the petitioner is duly examined by a team of medical experts to see if he is truly handicapped or not and to submit a report within 15 days, as well as to reserve an MBBS seat for the 2019-20 session.
Based on the Court's instruction, necessary examinations were conducted and a report was submitted by the State Government to the Court mentioning that even if Yaiphaba Laiphrakpam is handicapped, his functionality is at 44 percent.
As such, Yaiphaba is on his way to get an MBBS seat in the coming session.
